Jack joins Harvey's Gang at St Richard's hospital

Latest Harvey's gang member; 12 year old Jack, at St Richard's hospital, Chichester and therefore participated as part of National Pathology week 2016.

We were also able to show him a unit of Red cells, suitable for him, A RhDPos, and also one for his mum A RhDNeg too.

Jack asked a number of questions, and we hope we were able to answer those questions to his satisfaction, time will tell.

Thanks too to Steve in Clinical chemistry who showed us a colorimetric reaction as Jack had a regular U&E's blood test, and the reactions helped explain what was happening with his kidney fuinction (washing machines for blood!)

It was a great day, Jack and his Mum enjoyed there adventure into the mystical world of pathology diagnostics, and so did we. Meeting this very polite, and very interested young man and showing him around made our day; Thank you Jack.

Jack has now mastered Microscopy

Oscar joined Harvey's Gang at St Richard's hospital today too.

6 year old Oscar toured our laboratories at St Richard's Chichester today and all the team enjoyed meeting him. We are hoping that this will help Oscar having samples collected in future!

Trevor, Oscar and Zoe
Oscar, our Zoe even came in from Annual leave to meet you.

Today I popped into see Ellis, (Harvey's Gang member) back on Bluefin ward at Worthing, and say Hi;

We had a timely delivery of Lab Cold penguins and so was able to give Ellis some new coloured penguins in my ISBT bag along with a comic, Lego, pens, sweets, and of course a Billy Blood drop.

Henry joins Harvey's gang at St Richard's hospital Chichester, WSHFT

4 year old Henry is the latest recruit to Harvey's gang. He had his tour with Mum, Michelle and Nanny Kim, and Monkey!

What a great afternoon, Tuesday 18th October 2016, at our laboratory yesterday as we had the pleasure of showing Henry around our laboratories and meeting all the team at St Richard's Chichester, Western Sussex NHS Hospitals Foundation Trust.

 Henry brought his own blood samples down to the lab and met Monkey he saw the Pod or air tube specimen shute system and then entered the magical laboratory. Henry worked with our Specimen Reception team to label and book his own samples into the computer system and give them a barcode.

Henry, Michelle and Kim then saw the "train-set" sorry, Track system that holds all of our Lego, miniature figurines, trains, cars and vans. He is too young to know the vehicle from Breaking Bad! but Mum recognised the Ghost Busters vehicle.

He toured the laboratory and saw his FBC being processed on the Abbott Sapphire and the results on the Laser scatter plot, then moved onto the Chemistry area where he saw his sample tested on both parts of the Abbott Architect.

We all then visited blood transfusion and found that we wouldn't have had a suitable unit of blood for this young man if he needed a transfusion, we would have had to request a delivery from NHS Blood and Transplant. We always need donors:

THANK you everyone for all of your time and effort to make this tour so very special for Henry, his Mum Michelle and Nanny Kim, who we hope now that the "tears of joy" have stopped flowing! Henry's face was a picture and his smile melted all of our hearts. Thank you Henry. To help then please visit. Thank you to those organisations and individuals that have helped us so much; Ortho Clinical Diagnostics, Handelsbanken, LabCold, and BGS Reading.

What an exciting day. A first; but they do say things happen in 3’s! so what will be the third? 3 new sites to start in Three Countries.

Dear friends, of "our" Harvey's gang, what an exciting day. A first; but they do say things happen in 3’s!

I am so very chuffed to say that Harvey's Gang will start in 3 new sites to start in Three Countries.

3 new sites to start in Three Countries.

Richard, Emma, and Claire; KEY  drivers to start Harvey's gang.

No tour would be without our LabCold penguins
The 3 new sites are Scotland, Wales and another site in England;

Preston, Lancashire, England;

Ninewells, Dundee, Scotland;

North Wales hospital, Wales (I am still not sure how to spell it!)

Amazing, so very chuffed;

Cheers, Malcolm

Race Night!

Hey Guys,

Kayleigh here!

Before I even start with this blog, can I just say how amazing it is that Harvey's Gang is now a charity! I'm looking forward to becoming more involved, fundraising and writing more for Harvey's Gang!

I haven't really introduced myself properly to Harvey's Gang followers. I'm Kayleigh. I am an Author, Writer and Blogger. I have my own blog which I'll link at the bottom of this blog if your interested in getting to know me a bit more! I was honoured when Malcolm asked me to become involved with Harvey's Gang last year in trying to do some projects which one lead to setting up this blog and being asked to become a trustee for Harvey's Gang. And I'll apologise for not writing to you guys on here a lot but all that is about to change! I shall try and upload weekly!

Last night we went down to the Gardener's Arms for a Race Night for Harvey's Gang!

All money that was put on the horses and donations went towards Harvey's Gang and everyone was very kind with donating lots of money towards our cause! We all put money on horses too but unfortunately didn't win!

Tiernan and the horse we bet on!

Harvey's sister Evie won £5 on the horses!!

 There was also a raffle which we very excitedly took part in and brought lots of tickets!!

We even won a prize in the raffle!!

Evie won on the raffle too!

We took a few snaps of the venue and the crowd!

Plus we all couldn't resist a sneaky selfie!

Andi and I wore our Harvey's Gang Tshirts!

Claire, Harvey's mother said a few words about Harvey's Gang and thanked everyone for supporting us. It was also my first time meeting her and the rest of Harvey's family.  I found Harvey's family so inspiring and it made me feel honoured and proud to be a part of Harvey's Gang.

Harvey's mum Claire, Dad Richard and sister Evie.
I'm not too sure how much we raised last night but as soon as I hear or Malcolm hears we will update you!

I'd like to say a massive thanks on behalf of everyone involved with Harvey's Gang for everyone's donations and wanting to get more involved.

Also Andrew wanted a mention on the blog and would like to thank him and David and anyone else I haven't mentioned for all of the hard work they put into the Race Night!

You can visit David's website here

Till next time,

P.S  . . . .

Keep an eye out for these . . .

We have out own donation pots!!

If you come across one, if you wouldn't mind putting a small donation in it to help support all the work that we do! A little goes a long way!
